Frequently Asked Questions
How much do your cakes cost? It's impossible to set up a price list, since each cake has so many variables. We take into account the number of servings, the complexity diversity of the design elements, and particulars important to the event. Sometimes a smaller cake may take longer to create than a larger one, and therefore, it will be priced higher per slice, which is the basis for pricing used by most bakeries. Our most basic cake begins at $8 per slice; however, we recommend budgeting between $10-$16 per slice after all of the elements (design, flavors, fillings, cake stand rental, tax, delivery, set up, etc) have been included. Of course we will certainly make every effort to work within your budget.
Do you offer a cake tasting for wedding cakes? We do offer tastings...of course! For orders over $500 our cake tasting is included in the purchase price. The tasting consists of 3 different cake and filling selections, as well as a sample of our Italian buttercream and white fondant. The tasting would also include a design and decoration consultation. If you already know the flavors you want for your cake and have a clear design idea in mind JCC would be willing to offer you a 10% discount on the cake order in exchange for going without the cake tasting/consultation session.
Do you charge for your cake tastings? For orders under $500, we do charge $50 for a tasting, which would consist of 3 different cake and 3 different filling selections as well as a sample of our Italian buttercream. Alternatively, if you already know the flavors you want in your cake and have a clear design idea in mind we could arrange a sample box of cupcakes for you to pick up for $25.
When should I book my cake?We do not like to rush clients into making hasty decisions and we encourage research. However, we cannot guarantee prices and availability before a contract is signed. Most couples book our services six months to a year before their event. We have been known, however, to stay up all night to complete last-minute orders.
Can you ship my cake or the top tier after my event? We find that standard carriers cannot guarantee safe shipping of our cakes. Even though our cakes are structurally sound, they need to be crated and even packed in dry ice to protect the perishable ingredients and fragile decorations. Some designs may even require the presence of a staff member who must assemble the cake on-site. Obviously, this process is both complicated and costly and involves special planning.
Would you be willing to use fresh flowers on my cake?We strongly advocate against the use of fresh flowers on cakes. JCC prefers to make handmade floral decor for specialty cakes as many fresh flowers may contain pesticides, dirt, bugs, or be poisonous for consumption; Furthermore, Wyoming food safety laws prohibit commercial kitchens to use live plants that are not meant for consumption. Additionally, we love the artistic challenge sugar work presents and we recommend saving the confectionery flowers as keepsakes.
May I purchase sugar flowers and sugar decorations from you?We do not sell our sugar flowers or sugar decorations separately from our completed cakes. Our sugar embellishments are very time-consuming to make and too fragile to ship on their own.
My local baker is making my cake. Can you supply instructions? May I have dimensions of one of your specific cake designs?Unfortunately, we can't supply this information, as we need to devote our resources to meet the demands of our clients. The structuring and decorating techniques we use took a long time to develop; additionally, cake construction requires special conditions and tools. We, therefore, cannot assume the liability of providing long-distance support to third parties.
